John R. Parnell, Jr. Announces Candidacy for Grosse Pointe Park Municipal Judge

GROSSE POINTE PARK, MI — Local attorney and longtime Grosse Pointe Park resident John R. Parnell, Jr. has officially announced his candidacy for Grosse Pointe Park Municipal Judge in the upcoming election on November 4, 2025.

A third-generation Grosse Pointer and practicing attorney for 17 years, Parnell brings a wealth of legal experience and a deep commitment to the community he’s called home for nearly two decades. He is the founding partner of Lubera & Parnell, P.L.C., where he has built a practice focused on real estate litigation, estate planning, probate and trust litigation, and estate administration. Earlier in his career, he practiced alongside his father, continuing a family tradition of service in the legal profession.

“As a lifelong member of this community and someone who has spent his career helping individuals and families navigate the legal system, I believe I have the experience and perspective to serve as a fair, thoughtful, and community-minded judge,” said Parnell. “I’m running because I care deeply about Grosse Pointe Park and want to help keep our neighborhoods safe, our court accessible, and our justice system balanced.”

The Grosse Pointe Park Municipal Court—one of only four municipal courts in the State of Michigan—handles misdemeanor criminal offenses, landlord-tenant disputes, limited civil matters, and preliminary felony proceedings within the city. Parnell’s broad legal background and solutions-oriented approach make him uniquely qualified to preside over these matters with fairness and efficiency.

Public safety and community well-being are central to Parnell’s platform. As Vice Commander of the Grosse Pointe Farms Police Reserve Unit and a dedicated youth baseball coach, he has a long track record of local involvement beyond the courtroom. “I believe our court can and should reflect the values of our community—respect, accountability, and compassion,” Parnell added.

John lives in Grosse Pointe Park with his wife and young son. When he’s not practicing law or volunteering, he enjoys boating and coaching in the Grosse Pointe Park Little League and 11U travel baseball programs.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
