Meet John R. Parnell, Jr.
John Parnell is a lifelong member of the Grosse Pointe community and a proud third-generation Grosse Pointer. For nearly two decades, he has lived in Grosse Pointe Park and dedicated his legal career to serving individuals, families, and small businesses across the region.
A licensed Michigan attorney for 17 years, John is a founding partner at Lubera & Parnell, P.L.C., where he is known for his practical, solutions-oriented approach to the law. Early in his career, John practiced alongside his father in the family’s law firm, continuing a legacy of service until his father's retirement.
John began his practice focusing on criminal defense, landlord-tenant disputes, and general civil matters. Today, his work primarily centers on estate planning, probate and trust litigation, real estate litigation, and estate administration. His commitment to clear communication and client-centered service has earned him the trust of those navigating life’s most challenging legal issues.
As a candidate for Grosse Pointe Park Municipal Judge, John is eager to apply his courtroom experience and fair-minded approach to help maintain the safety and integrity of our community. The Grosse Pointe Park Municipal Court—one of only four municipal courts in Michigan—handles landlord-tenant matters, limited civil cases, and misdemeanor criminal cases within the city, as well as arraignments, setting bail, and preliminary exams in felony matters. John’s deep understanding of these areas makes him uniquely prepared to serve in this important role. Keeping our roads and community safe is of deep importance to him.
Outside the courtroom, John is deeply engaged in the community. He has served as Vice Commander of the Grosse Pointe Farms Police Reserve Unit and is an active youth baseball coach, including with the Grosse Pointe Park Little League and an 11U travel team. He enjoys spending time on the water and cherishes time with his wife and son.
John Parnell is committed to fairness, accountability, and ensuring that every resident is treated with respect in the judicial process. His blend of legal expertise, compassion, and dedication to public service makes him the right choice for Grosse Pointe Park Municipal Judge.
